Experience
Gerald M. Shapiro is co-founder with David S. Kreisman of the LOGS Legal Network. Under his guidance, the Law Offices of Gerald Shapiro has developed into a preeminent network of law firms that provides national representation to mortgage lenders. In addition to the LOGS Legal Network, Mr. Shapiro has expanded services provided by LOGS Financial Services, Inc. to the areas described in the Foreword of this manual. A combination of legal and mortgage expertise has enabled him to expand LOGS services and yet remain attentive to the changing requirements and concerns of the banking industry.

LOGS partnerships currently provide representation in 35 states and the District of Columbia. With further expansion in progress, Mr. Shapiro currently concentrates on the overall management of LOGS operations and providing client assistance. With more than 30 years of private practice dedicated to the mortgage industry, he is widely experienced in coordinating multi-state representation of lenders in the areas of foreclosure, bankruptcy, real estate closing and document preparation. His legal experience also includes representation in other fields of real estate law, including acquisitions, development and financing of complex commercial developments.

Memberships include the American Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association and Florida Bar Association. Mr. Shapiro also is an active member of the Mortgage Bankers Association of America, the National Council of Savings Institutions and the majority of state Mortgage Bankers Associations.

Experience
David S. Kreisman is co-founder with Gerald M. Shapiro of the LOGS Legal Network. He is director of national operations for all LOGS Legal Network offices and has direct responsibility for management and supervision of the Shapiro & Kreisman partnership offices. Mr. Kreisman remains at the forefront of legal trends and developments in the fields of real estate and bankruptcy throughout the country. With offices providing representation in 35 states and the District of Columbia and expansion in progress, Mr. Kreisman remains readily available to address client concerns and questions and to resolve specific problem files.

In over 37 years of private practice, Mr. Kreisman has concentrated his practice in real estate, lender representation and civil litigation at the trial and appellate levels. In addition to foreclosure and bankruptcy representation, he has developed expertise in the associated areas of tax deed and fire loss litigation, drug seizures, code enforcement and condemnation proceedings. In these areas, Mr. Kreisman has pioneered unique defenses and strategies for lender representation that have been adopted by many members of the legal community practicing in these areas. He has authored many real estate articles in addition to editing and publishing the LOGS Ledger.

Memberships include the American Bar Association, Chicago Council of Lawyers and the National Association of Chapter 13 Trustees. He is also an active member of the Illinois Mortgage Bankers Association and the Mortgage Bankers Association of America.

 

John A. DiCaro, Managing Partner

John A. DiCaro, Esq. is the Managing Partner of Shapiro, DiCaro & Barak, LLP in Rochester, New York. John received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the State University of New York at Albany in 1978, and received a Juris Doctorate Degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law in 1981. John began his career in 1982 and joined the firm in 1992. He became the managing partner in 1997. John has practiced in the areas of real estate, banking and commercial law, including residential and commercial mortgage foreclosures, receiverships, evictions and commercial lease negotiation. He has had an extensive practice in Bankruptcy Court including representation of both debtors and secured creditors. John can be reached at jdicaro@logs.com.

 

Gary M. Kanellis, Real Estate/Title Attorney

Gary M. Kanellis, Esq. is an Associate Attorney of Shapiro, DiCaro & Barak, LLP. Gary received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Dayton in 1994 and received a Juris Doctorate Degree from Seton Hall University in Newark, New Jersey in 1998. He is a member of the New York and New Jersey State bars and is admitted to practice in various Federal courts. Ellis M. Oster, Litigation Attorney

Ellis M. Oster, Esq. is an Associate Attorney of Shapiro, DiCaro & Barak, LLP. Ellis received both his Bachelor of Arts (magna cum laude) and Master of Arts degrees from The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, in 2003. In 2006, he received his Doctor of Law degree from Cornell Law School, where he served as events editor for the Cornell Journal of Law and Public Policy, and president of Cornell’s Federalist Society chapter. Ellis was admitted to practice law in New York in February 2007 and joined the firm in June 2008. He has been practicing in the firm’s Litigation Department since August 2008. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association, the Monroe County Bar Association, the Federalist Society, and the Republican National Lawyers Association. Frank M. Cassara, Senior Foreclosure Attorney

Frank M. Cassara, Esq. is an Associate Attorney of Shapiro, DiCaro & Barak, LLP. Frank received a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. John Fisher College in 1988 and received a Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Dayton School of Law in 1991. Frank is a member of the New York State Bar and is admitted to practice in various Bankruptcy and Federal courts in New York. Alissa L. Baader, Associate Attorney

Alissa L. Baader, Esq. is an Associate Attorney of Shapiro, DiCaro & Barak, LLP. Alissa received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA, and received a Juris Doctorate Degree and a Masters of Business Administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She is a member of the Monroe County and New York State Bar Associations. Alissa joined the firm in August 2009, and began practicing in the Foreclosure Department. Anne Miller-Hulbert, Bankruptcy Attorney

Anne Miller-Hulbert, Esq. is an Associate Attorney of Shapiro & DiCaro & Barak, LLP. Anne received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Cornell University in 1972 and received a Juris Doctor Degree from Syracuse University of Law in 1983. She is a member of the New York State Bar Association and Monroe County Bar Association. Anne is admitted to practice in the courts of New York and all Federal district courts in the State of New York. Ann joined the firm in April 1993 and manages our Bankruptcy Department. Michael J. Chatwin, Associate Attorney

Michael J. Chatwin, Esq. is an Associate Attorney of Shapiro, DiCaro & Barak, LLP. Michael received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1997, and received a Juris Doctorate Degree from Syracuse University College of Law in 2000. He is a member of the New York state bar and Monroe County Bar Association, and is admitted to practice in various Federal courts. Michael joined the firm in June, 2009, and began practicing in the Foreclosure and Real Estate Departments. Kristin Morone, Director of Statewide Operations

Kris Morone is the Director of Operations of Shapiro, DiCaro & Barak, LLP. She has been in the default servicing arena since 1985 and joined our firm in November 2004. Kris is a certified paralegal experienced in the areas of Loss Mitigation, Foreclosure, Bankruptcy, Eviction and REO, along with a Real Estate and Title background. She has extensive experience in business management and leadership training.
